RBH SVTR TOWER REVIEW

There is a speaker for everyone. The decision is based on our personal preference and ideas as to what constitutes the perfect speaker for us. For some, that means bookshelf speakers and subwoofers. For some, that means in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. For some, that means single full-range towers. And for some, that means full-range modular towers.

As one of RBH’s "Towers of Power", the SVTR modular tower promises excellent dynamic range, bass extension, SPL, and accuracy.

The drivers include one Aurum Cantus AST25120 4.72" x 1" Aluminum Diaphragm Tweeter, three RBH Dispersion-Averaging 8" Aluminum Cone Midrange drivers, and two RBH 12" Aluminum Cone Subwoofers

Frequency response is 20Hz-20kHz +/- 3dB. Sensitivity is 93dB/2.83V/m. Impedance is 4 ohms. The SV-831R top cabinet is rated for 100-500 watts, and the SV-1212NR bottom cabinet is rated for 500-2,400 watts.

I got the SVTR towers in piano gloss black finish to replace the red Linkwitz Orion towers that I sold. The SVTR's piano gloss black finish reminds me of another pair of piano gloss black loudspeakers I sold - the B&W 802 Diamond towers. The dimensions also remind me of the 802 Diamond. They both have about the same 200 pounds weight, 15" width, and 22" depth. However, the RBH SVTR tower is about 14" taller than the 802 Diamond. In the height department, the SVT is also 8" taller than another shiny piano gloss towers I sold - the Revel Salon2. In terms of piano gloss aesthetics, I think the SVTR tower looks as good as the 802 Diamond and Salon2.

The SVTR tower is a "modular" tower. It consists of two separate 30-inch-100-lb cabinets that form one massive 200-lb tower. There is also a black metal plate that screws into the back of the speakers and joins the top and bottom cabinets for additional stability. However, even without the back metal plates and screws, the SVTR towers are very stable on my area rug.

My living room (which is 22'Wx23'Dx13'H and is open to the formal dining, foyer, breakfast, and kitchen) has a big thick area rug over the marble floor. Other than the sofas, pillows, and rug, there is no acoustic room treatment.

Right off the bat, everything sounded great with amazing details. The SVTR tower is one of the best sounding loudspeakers I've heard. The treble is smooth and non-fatiguing. The midrange is crystal clear. The bass sounds incredibly tight, deep, dynamic, and impactful and exactly like an awesome true dedicated subwoofer. The imaging is accurate and the soundstage is immersive and large.

Before listening to the SVT tower, the best loudspeaker I have ever heard was the RBH SX-T2/R tower. The SVTR tower is even better. The only other speaker that would sound even better is the bigger brother SVTRS tower of power.

There is a speaker for everyone. The decision is based on our personal preference and ideas as to what constitutes the perfect speaker for us. The RBH modular towers of power (SVTR and SVTRS) are my idea of the perfect loudspeakers.

Martin Logan Motion XT

MartinLogan loudspeakers are among the finest in the world. They range from traditional direct-radiating speakers to world-famous Electrostatic speakers, from box-speakers to in-walls, in-ceilings, on-walls, and subwoofers. They have speakers that cost $120,000/pair to more affordable speakers that have high-end performance.

One of the best and most popular ML speakers is the Motion XT tower, which is an audiophile-grade speaker with a frequency response of about +/- 2.5dB. This means it sounds extremely accurate. If you prefer to alter the sound, you can easily accomplish this by using EQ to change the accurate sound of the Motion XT to your personal liking. But it is best to start with a neutral speaker.

For subwoofers, ML offers high-end performance subwoofers to match their amazing speakers. These subwoofers include the flagship BalanceForce 212 sub (dual 12”) and BalanceForce 210 sub (dual 10”), and the Dynamo 1600X (single 15” sub), 1100X (single 12” sub), and 800X (single 10” sub) that come with built-in high-end Subwoofer EQ.
